ASIC Process

Application overview for Aviation ID Australia

Our streamlined process is fast, simple and secure.
There’s never been an easier way to apply for your ASIC card.

Steps to obtain an ASIC:

Step #1 – Online Application

The application form will take about 10 minutes to complete. You will be asked to provide:

  • Personal details including your address history for the past 10 years.
  • Proof of your identity.
  • Passport style photograph of yourself (less than 6 months old).
  • Proof of your operational need for the ASIC.
  • Preferred location to have your in-person ID Check.
  • Consent to undergo a background check with AusCheck.

You can digitally upload your documents and photograph for faster processing. If you don’t have the required documents, you can still submit the online application and provide these later.

Step #2 – In-Person ID Check

Once all required documents have been received, your application will be sent to AusCheck for your background check. During this time, we will send you contact details for our agent in the location of your choice to complete the in-person ID Check.

The ID Check will take about 5-10 minutes to complete. You will be asked to provide:

  • Your original identification documents that you submitted to us in Step #1. We will provide you with a list of the documents you need to take.

Step #3 – AusCheck Approval

AusCheck are an external government department responsible for conducting the background check for your ASIC. The AusCheck processing time can be around 2-6 weeks (sometimes less, sometimes more). As soon as we receive approval from AusCheck, and you have completed your ID Check, we can print and post your ASIC.

To ensure the quickest process possible, it is important to complete your ID Check (Step #2) before your AusCheck is approved.

Step #4 – ASIC Delivered

Upon AusCheck approval (and completion of your ID Check), your ASIC will be printed and posted within 1-2 business days directly to your nominated address. ASICs are sent by registered post and you will be required to sign for the delivery. You will receive an email communication with your tracking number.

Step #5 – Return Expired ASICs

Regulations require you to return your ASIC to our office within 30 days after its expiry, or sooner if you no longer have an operational need. For your convenience, we will supply a Reply-Paid envelope with your new ASIC. However, if you have any ASICs issued by us that expired more than 30 days ago, these must be returned asap to Locked Bag 2000, Merimbula NSW 2548.
